The Gastronomer
Disclaimer: I am utterly unqualified to say anything about Ferran Adria. His restaurant, El Bulli is, as someone described it, a "someday before I die" kind of culinary experience. He is the Frank Lloyd Wright of food. He cooks like a chemist -- no, he is a chemist. He is an artist who paints with comestibles. Imagine that: a chef in the south of Spain, thinking so radically about cooking and methods that thousands of miles away in New York, chefs who have never tasted his food are aping his ideas, buying foamers, making savory granites, even down to serving little things in porcelain spoons, just to see if maybe some of that magic will rub off somehow. Now they've made a little movie about him, with Anthony Bourdain hosting. Can't wait.
