When this picture appeared on the front page of the New York Times, I was shocked. But shocked in a good way, in the way that the grotesque can grab you by the lapels and shake you into waking up. I hadn't realized that there was some controversy over this photo, and that some people don't like to be told to wake up and smell their morning cup of coffee. I, for one, appreciated the decision.
